Things To Do at Riverfront Campground
The Niangua River is a popular river destination for all types of water recreation. Large rafts, kayaks and canoes are available for rent at Riverfront Campground with your adventure beginning by pushing off shore right there on their rocky beach. The float trip from Riverfront Campground is about 8 miles long, with rocky beaches and islands scattered throughout for stopping along the way for a mid day swim or lunch. It’s important to note that keeping an eye on the time is critical as Riverfront Campground will pick you up and transport your floating party back to the campground by bus but you must not arrive past the last pick up time. Additionally it is important to watch for the designated take out area for Riverfront Campground, as there is also a fee for anyone who passes by the take out to another location. Weekends and holidays are popular floating days with the river being busy and crowded. For this reason, our family has successfully floated on a Friday morning to avoid the sometimes loud and sometimes rowdy weekend crowds.
In addition to float trips, Riverfront Campground offers a great rocky beach area to spend a sunny afternoon dipping your toes in the cool river while kids splash and swim, catching minnows and crawdads. Watch for an occasional Bald Eagle soaring above and other river wildlife such as turtles, snakes, water fowl, deer and more.
Riverfront is located only a couple miles from Bennett Springs State Park. With many additional recreation opportunities such as trout fishing, a fish hatchery, picnicking, playgrounds, hiking trails, biking trails and more. For dining options, Bennett Springs State Park offers the Bennett Spring Dining Lodge with home cooking favorites. The Gravel Bar & Grill located close to Riverfront Campground offer pizza, wings, salads, sandwiches and more with full bar.
